Clipped hardened washers are used where there are space limitations and only one side can be clipped. These washers provide a smooth bearing surface and are used at the bottom of the head of bolt / nut. The chemical, mechanical, and dimensional requirements with regards to hardened washers satisfy the ASTM specification F436. And, these washers are completely hardened or carburized to add strength; but, they are smaller in size compared to the standard F844 flat washers.
